Gjøvik was buzzing with excitement as the local newspaper, Oppland Arbeiderblad (OA), marked its centennial with a special event called “Ta Sjansen på Fastland.” This yearly tradition, inspired by a popular Norwegian TV show, featured teams constructing and racing homemade vessels down a ramp into a lake.
A crowd of around 4,000 onlookers cheered as the improvised boats hit the water. The event was a joyful celebration of community, with 11 boats representing local businesses and organizations vying for various accolades, including fastest boat, most original design, and best ‘fiasco.’
Raufoss Technology Norway stole the show with their creatively themed boat. The vessel featured a smokestack that billowed smoke, symbolizing a factory. This unique design, a nod to the company’s industrial roots, earned them the prize for the most original craft. Their entry not only showcased their engineering skills but also demonstrated a playful spirit that perfectly captured the event’s festive atmosphere.
The day was filled with laughter and a strong sense of togetherness as participants and spectators alike enjoyed the festivities. It was a memorable occasion that brought people together to celebrate the newspaper’s milestone anniversary.
