Day of the Dead in Mexico

Day of the Dead (in spanish “Día de Muertos”) is a holiday in Mexico that honors the dead loved ones and makes peace with the eventuality of death by treating it familiarly, without fear and dread. The holiday is derived from the rituals of the pre-Hispanic peoples of Mexico.

During this holiday, families and friends build altars and adorn grave sites with pictures, candles, marigolds, and the favorite foods of deceased relatives in an attempt to persuade the loved ones to return for a family reunion.

At Raufoss Technology in Lagos de Moreno we built an altar to remember our loved ones, shared some “pan de muertos” (bread) and had a “calaveritas” poem contest.
